2007: Nembe leaders affirm support for Tinubu, APC candidates

Following the political realignment from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Bayelsa State, ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Nembe LGA, APC political leaders/ elders and stakeholders have reaffirmed its unwavering support for all APC candidates contesting the 2027 general elections in the council.

In an enlarged meeting of the political leaders/elders and stakeholders held at Tolda Hotel, Ekeki, yenagoa, the capital, also threw its full weight behind the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu for second term.

Stakeholders made the reaffirmation, while hosting the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidates for the Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency and Nembe LGA House of Assembly seats as they prepares for the 2027 general elections.

In his opening remarks, political leader and former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (retd), appreciated the commitment and determination of the political class, stakeholders and candidates of Nembe LGA, to forged unity towards the realization of victory ahead of the general elections.

Jonah , said that the meeting was important as the nation gradually approaches another election circle.

According to him, elections victory can only come when the people unite and work towards realizing the vision of their candidates and also was designed to promote peace and encourage informed participation and stimulate conversations capable of winning the elections.

He expressed confidence that with the unity already being experienced across the LGA victory is assured.

Jonah appreciated all for attending the meeting, cooperation, and understanding they’ve shared, stressing that, all have a common responsibility to promote peace, unity and development of the council area.

Making his remarks, member representing Nembe constituency 1, in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, and who is seeking re- election, Dr. Douglas Awudulu said, he was towing the path of his predecessors who have occupied the seat, and served for second tenure and be given also the liberty to complete two tenure.

He maintained that, within the past 3 years he has demonstrated quality and effective representation on the floor of the house.

Noting that , if elected back to the house, he would bring more positive transformation to the constituency, council and the state.

Speaking in the same vein, member representing Nembe constituency 1, in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon Brigidi Eriya, said, engaging in opposition politics is difficult, adding that he has always maintained cordial relationship with his constituency and political leaders in the council and pledged his unalloyed commitment to more development of his constituency.

Also, speaking the candidate contesting for Nembe constituency 3, Hon. Alalibo West, said he was humbled to stand before respected leaders of Nembe council area, to seek for their support in the forthcoming general election.

According to him, if during his times as former chairman of council or in the course of interactions, he had done anything wrong to anyone, knowingly or unknowingly, he ask for forgiveness.

Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, candidate for the Brass/ Nembe Federal Constituency and who was a former lawmaker in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, in his remarks, commended the leaders for their dedication and commitment towards the realization of the vision and reaffirmed his commitment to empowering young people and improving their well-being.

Obuebite , also gave the assurance that he would play the politics in which the interest of citizens of the LGA took precedence over the ambition of politicians.

According to him , he is in the race to unite the Nembe people, he said.

Obuebite, had earlier also praised governor Douye Diri for his laudable achievements, in human and infrastructural development across the state.

Hon. Isreal Sunny -Igoli, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives and now contesting for Senate seat in the Bayelsa East Senatorial District, while addressing leaders commended them for their efforts in stabilizing unity in Nembe and publicly declared that, if elected he would take development and dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

According to him, the 5 candidates contesting under the platform of the APC, if elected would place development at the centre of their agenda. Assuring that, they would work in synergy towards the fulfillment of the vision and mission of which they are being elected and also to take the Bayelsa East Senatorial District to the world politically.

Igoli maintained that his leadership style would prioritizes accessibility, noting that his office would remains open to constituents seeking help with employment, contracts, education, among others.

In their solidarity messages various speakers, including Dr. Kojo Sam and other leaders of the Nembe LGA, said , although Nembe have never had it so good, it’s just the beginning of other good things to come to the council area.

According to the leaders, the
gathering placed a responsibility on them to promote peaceful and responsible political participation “as we set out for the general elections”.
According to the leaders the initiative was aimed at bringing all fray nerves, those who have grievances together and forged a common front towards the general election.

According to them, the meeting also signalled a early push by stakeholders to support the 5 candidates contesting on the platform of the APC, and build structures around them to succeed come 2027 general election.
