Anambra: From First to 27th
The latest PCL State Performance Index is a sobering indictment of the decline in Anambra’s performance. The State is now ranked 27th nationally, with a composite score of -0.22, while Abia and Enugu rank 2nd and 3rd respectively. The report records Anambra as having fallen 19 places across the three editions of the index.
What makes this particularly painful is the enormous increase in resources available to the State. Under Peter Obi, Anambra was ranked first nationally in the relevant performance assessment. Today, under Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, it has fallen to 27th.
A State receiving an average of about ₦25 billion monthly, compared with the roughly ₦3 billion monthly available to its predecessors, should ordinarily have much more to show in terms of measurable development.
The figures speak for themselves. From first nationally to 27th. From about ₦3 billion monthly to ₦25 billion monthly. What a shame.
