A top Iranian cleric, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati,  has warned Nigeria and India to stop harrassing the leader of Nigeria’s Shiites, Sheikh Ibrahim el Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat.

The cleric, who is the secretary of Iran’s powerful Guardian Council, was quoted in a report by Mehr News Agency.

He said: “Secretary of the #Iran’s Guardian Council, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, called for an immediate end to pressures on #SheikhZakzaky & his family.

Ayatollah Jannati highlighted that the #Nigerian cleric’s need for medical treatment should be met as soon as possible.”

Zakzaky, who is also the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, had refused to allow “strange doctors” to treat him at India’s Medant Hospital.

He and his wife are currently on bail granted by a Kaduna State High Court.
