Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Mukhtar, on Tuesday said the state government never recommended the banishment of Muhammad Sanusi II to Nasarawa State after his dethronement by the state government.

Mukhtar told journalists in Kano that the state government merely removed Sanusi while security agencies took him on their own volition to Nasarawa State.

The visibly rattled justice commissioner was responding to an ultimatum by Sanusi’s lawyer, Abubakar Mahmoud SAN that his legal team would head to court if the emir is not released within 24 hours.

He said it would be difficult for him to make a distinction between the circumstances of Sanusi’s dethronement and that of a former Emir of Gwandu, Mustapha Jokolo.
