University of Lagos on Thursday postponed it’s 52st (2019) Convocation on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Education.

The postponement was contained in a circular signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.

No reason was given for the action.

However, the ministry had in a March 2 2020 letter to the National Universities Commission signed by the Permanent Secretary, Sonny Echono, called for the postponement based on a complaint from UNILAG Chairman of Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Bola Babalakin, that due process was not followed in planning the convocation.

Echono said Babalakin had in the letter claimed that the convocation was not approved by the Governing Council.

He therefore advised the university to postpone the convocation.
