Nigerian entertainer, Innocent Idibia aka Tuface, has cancelled plans for nationwide protests scheduled for Monday.

The protests were intended to drawthe attention of the Buhari administration to the growing hardship in the country.

in a video posted on Instagram on Sunday morning, Tuface said he decided to drop the planned ‘One Voice’ protests due to “serious threat of hijack by interests not aligned with our ideals.”

He may have been referring to indications that some opposition politicians such as Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, were likely to be part of the demonstrations.

Tuface had actually put up a video some days ago asking politicians to stay away from the protests.

In Sunday’s video, he wrote: ” Dear Nigerians, after due consultations, it has become clear that the one voice protest scheduled to hold in Lagos and Abuja on Monday, February 6 is under serious threat of hijack by interests not aligned with our ideals.

” The point I am intent on making is not worth the life of any Nigerian. It is motivated by the need to negotiate a better deal for the ordinary Nigerian.

” I therefore announce the cancellation of the planned protest.

“We would share further information in due course. We appreciate the massive support .

“I am convinced our voices have been heard.

May God bless you all, may God bless Nigeria.”

The Nigeria Police had advised Tuface to cancel the rallies due to security concerns even as it advised those planning pro-Buhari protests to also shelve theirs.

this was despite comments by the presidency that Tuface had a democratic right to go ahead with his protest.
