Terrorism: Akwa Ibom orders evacuation of citizens from Katsina

Akwa Ibom State Government on Tuesday ordered the immediate evacuation of its indigenes from Katsina State.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, in a statement said the directive was in response to a viral video of indigenes of the state calling for help as a result of attacks by terrorists.

It reads: "In response to a viral video showing some Akwa Ibom citizens, who are currently being displaced in Katsina State, due to bandit-induced insecurity, His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has directed the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, to immediately lead government’s efforts at effective handling of the situation.

Flowing from that instruction, Dr. Adiakpan has contacted the President of the Akwa Ibom State Community in Katsina, Chief Effiom William, who is cooperating fully with the government, to take necessary actions to help the situation of our displaced citizens."
