The Nigerian government on Tuesday night issued an order to the electricity distribution companies to freeze the recent tariff hike for two weeks.
The order was issued by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and directed the DISCOs to freeze the hike from September 28 to October 11, 2020.
The memo was tagged: NERC/209/2020 and was issued pursuant to Section 33 of the Electricity Power Sector Reform Act.
It was signed by NERC Chairman, James A. Momoh, and Commissioner, Legal, Licensing and Compliance, Dafe E. Akpedeye and directed the DISCOs to rates applicable as at August 31, 2020.
It said the order was in compliance with the agreement reached between the Federal Government and the organised labour.
