Seven die as Obaseki’s escort van, Audi collide


No fewer than seven persons, comprising five adults and two children, died on Saturday when an escort Toyota Hilux van in the advance convoy of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, had a head-on collision with an Audi car.

The crash occured at Ehorin Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state as the advance team headed to the convocation of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

A number of persons on the convoy, including the driver of the Hilux, were also badly injured.

The dead and injured were taken to the SAVAN Centre at the Central Hospital in the state capital, Benin.

The Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Mohammed, confirmed the incident and described it as “unfortunate.”
