Sanwo-Olu shuts Lagos mosque

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday ordered the shutting down of Agege Central Mosque on the outskirts of the city, in response to Wednesday’s attack on on a state government team on the enforcement of social distancing.

Hundreds of worshippers had attacked the team when it arrived to stop an ongoing programme.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Jibril Galway, said on Twitter that the mosque was shut by officials of Agege Local Government.

He said: “UPDATE: Agege LGA officials have sealed up the Agege Central Mosque in the area for violating the state government’s order on a religious gathering in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic… they used the opportunity to disinfect the area.

The governor also ordered the fumigation of the mosque and surrounding areas.
