Soldiers on Tuesday morning set houses ablaze in Awo-Omama in Imo State, in revenge against the alleged killing of their colleagues by unknown gunmen.

Witnesses said the soldiers were killed on Monday night at Ishieke junction by the gunmen, who fled immediately.

The remaining soldiers left the scene and returned with more of their colleagues.

They then set about torching houses and vehicles close to the Onitsha-Owerri road,  not minding their close proximity to a filling station.

A video in circulation shows the burning houses and vehicles with people shouting that nobody should get near the petrol station.

Some voices could be heard seeing out abuse against Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
