Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, may have got himself into deep trouble as the Presidency on Saturday directed key state institutions to investigate him.
Specifically, the Presidency ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the politician over chains he made at a press conference in Calabar, the Cross River State capital last week.
He had while responding to a question by the Daily Trust correspondent in the state, Eyo Charles, on who was bankrolling his tour of some states, used harsh words on the journalist.
Calling him stupid and a ‘brown envelope’ journalist, the Peoples Democratic Party member said he was a wealthy businessman and was personally responsible for financing his trips.
The politician had after the press conference released an edited video of the press conference, showing only where he was raining invectives on the reporter.
In the video, a policeman in uniform and an unidentified man in suit and dark spectacles stood behind Fani-Kayode.
This raised questions about he was able to get police guards when he has been standing trial for money laundering.
Confirming the Presidency’s directives in a tweet in Saturday, one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides, Lauretta Onochie, indicated that the issues had been referred to the agencies.
