Outrage has greeted a shocking claim by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, that he never knew that Nigeria’s health sector was in a bad shape until he was assigned to head the national Coronavirus response committee.
He had made the remark at a recent press briefing on the pandemic in Abuja.
Across social media, Nigerians lambasted the SGF, saying he had demonstrated the standard contempt of the Nigerian elite for the nation’s institutions.
Nigerians also said it was not surprising that such a comment could be made by a high-ranking government official, given the nonchalant attitude of the Buhari administration to.the health sector.
Another official who has come under hot missiles is the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, for telling members of the House of Representatives that he didn’t know that health workers were entitled to hazard allowance for fighting Coronavirus.
Ehanire had also told the lawmakers that the health workers were “doing their jobs,” but Nigerians fired back at him over what they described as his unfeeling attitude towards the sector.
They accused him of heading a ministry he was ready to take to higher heights.
According to them, Ehanire ought to be relieved of his position so that a more competent person would take over.
