Outrage has greeted a tweet by an aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, about a gunfight between the Nigerian Army and bandits who abducted hundreds of male pupils from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State.
Ahmad wrote: "The Chief of Army Staff, General Buratai, briefs the President on the bandits’ attack on the GSSS Kankara; the military, supported by air power has located the bandits’ enclave at Zango/Paula forest in Kankara and there have been exchange of fire in an ongoing operation."
However, many respondents fired back at him, saying it was wrong for him to have revealed the location of an ongoing military operation.
Meanwhile, policemen fired teargas at parents who booed Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, when he visited the school on Saturday.
The bandits had struck on Friday afternoon, hours after Buhari arrived his hometown of Daura in the state on a week-long vacation.
