Ondo: Panic as gunshots rock Owo

Akeredolu warns parties against fielding northern presidential candidates


There was panic in Owo, Ondo State on Wednesday as gunshots rocked a part of the sleepy town.

Though there were varying accounts about the cause of the shooting, some attributed it to a terrorist attack.

Another resident said it was from W location where operatives of the state vigilance group, Amotekun, were in training.

However, a third account said terrorists invaded the town, attacking Folahanmi sytreet where they fired gunshots.

Many people were said to have been injured in the attack which took place Wednesday evening, at Folahami Junction, where a construction company called Craneburg Construction Company was located.

Eyewitness reports had it that the gunmen opened fire on those at the site.

Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying: ”Tonight, there was a shooting incident at Craneburg Construction Company Owo, Policemen are currently at the scene, victims have been taken to Hospital and they are in stable condition.

” We can not ascertain the casualty figure now and we also cannot say it was a terrorists’ attack with the use of explosives devices but tomorrow( Thursday ) morning , the EOD men of the command would go to the scene.”

The police PRO, Odunlami, appealed to residents not to panic as the situation was under control.

Few weeks ago, gunmen invaded St. Francis Catholic Church in the town and shot scores dead.
