Ondo CP dismantles checkpoints on Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Oyediran Oyeyemi, has moved to end illegal police checkpoints along Shagam -Ore -Benin Expressway which always cause traffic jam on the busy road.

It was gathered that there are over 200 police checkpoints on the highway and that travellers spend seven to ten hours on the same road due to the checkpoints.

Speaking on the development, the CP who led a team of police officers of the command to the expressway in Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, said indiscipline will never be allowed under his watch.

He said there would be a stop and reduction to some of the checkpoints on the expressway.

Oyeyemi said, “We don’t want a situation whereby travellers will suffer for several hours due to traffic jams. That is why we are here to talk to our men and restore sanity. The police will not tolerate indiscipline of any kind. So, any police officer caught blocking the road using stick or whatsoever will never go unpunished.

“To sustain this, we will continue to visit this road without giving them prior notice. Motorists plying this road should have a rest of mind that they are safe.”

He also declared that there will be no room for extorting money from commercial drivers and other motorists which always cause delays in the journey of innocent passengers on the road.
