Ogun: Magboro residents raise online petition against IBEDC’s extortion



The residents of Magboro, a sprawling community on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State have raised an online petition against alleged extortion by Ibadan DISCO.

In the petition, they accused the utility of charging them between N4,000 and N10,000 monthly without commensurate power supply.

Sometimes last year, unknown persons placed some fetish items at an IBEDC switching point in the community.

The situation led to a two-week outage that affected the community and some others adjoining the expressway.

The petition titled: ‘Stop the estimated billing for Magboro Residents,’reads:

“The Magboro community is seeking a fair electricity tariff that is compliant with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) requirement for estimated billing. The community has been paying excessive estimated bills from the Ibadan Electric Distribution Company (IBEDC). Emeka, please sign this pertition to stop this extortion.
