The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, has reacted to the story credited to the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra, Mr. Andy Uba, that she will soon join the APC the same way the Deputy Governor, Nkem Okeke, did recently.

Mrs Obiano’s Press Secretary, Mr. Emeka Ozumba, said in a statement that Sen. Uba is a pretender in the November 6 governorship election.

Ozumba, who also functions as the Deputy Director Media APGA Campaign Directorate, said Andy Uba should know that Anambra electorate could distinguish between pretenders and serious-minded candidates like Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, not someone who could not attract a kilometre of road to his village.

Ozumba in a counter statement said, “When our attention was drawn to the statement credited to Sen Andy Ubah that ‘Mrs Obiano will soon join APC,’ we knew straight away that he was merely courting attention by dropping the name of the wife of Governor of Anambra State, Dr Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) – a performer in her own sphere and a philanthropist par excellence. After all, she is not on the ballot in the forthcoming elections.”

The Deputy Chief Press Secretary who wondered the fixation with Mrs Obiano joining the APC asked whether it was a campaign slogan of Mr Uba. “Why would anyone contemplate abandoning a popular and performing party like the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) to join a struggling APC without presence in Anambra?”

He also observed the difficulty Mr Uba was facing in convincing few people who swarm around his campaign office for their own windfall since he couldn’t tell them what he will do differently in Anambra. He pitied him because playing to the gallery rather than help his cause is repelling people and sending them back to where they came from.

He added, “Isn’t it curious that a man who could not attract one kilometre of road to his village while he held sway around a President for eight years is talking about rebuilding Anambra. We still remember the abracadabra he orchestrated to shore up his electoral chances by bringing the then President in 2017 to flag-off the construction of a second Niger Bridge without any evidence of architectural drawing, contract award or financing for the project.
“It is shameful and very churlish for Andy to be laying claim to the same project which the government of President Goodluck Jonathan eventually commenced work on and the present regime is on the verge of completing just because he is now in APC.

“Can someone advise Andy that Anambra electorate are discerning enough to differentiate between pretenders and serious candidates. That they know Prof Chukwuma Soludo of APGA to be the primus inter pares and baring pride that he Andy will vote for him”.
