Obi of Onitsha prepares for Ofala festival

Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe, has approved the setting up of committees of experts to manage the 2019 Ofala Festival.

The festival which is the annual emergence of the monarch from seclusion has been scheduled to hold in Onitsha from Oct. 11 to Oct 12.

An International Art Exhibition and Youths’ Carnival will form part of the event.

The committees will focus on such areas as finance, marketing strategy and communications, culture and tourism industry matters and government relations.

Others are protocol, logistics, and security.

The committees have established toward placing the festival on a higher pedestal.

According to the Obi of Onitsha, despite the grandeur and spectacle of the ofala, there is a need to strive for higher standards.

This is imperative particularly within the context of `Taking Onitsha Ado N’Idu’ to the next level.

“The 21st century is a millennium of rapid change, driven by digital technology that is transforming the world into a global village.”

The ofala has grown steadily in terms of its social glamour and intrinsic meaning for indigenes of Onitsha, and has enjoyed the benefit of partnering major corporate bodies that have helped in projecting Onitsha to the entire world.
