Nigerian editors elect Mustapha Isah, others



Nigerian Guild of Editors on Monday elected Mustapha Isah of Silverbird Television as its substantive President.

The election took place amid tensions in the banquet hall of Tahir Palace Hotel in Kano.

Isah, who took over as president after Mrs. Funke Egbemode was appointed as Commissioner for Information in Osun State in 2019, clinched 176 votes to his rival, Mrs. Victoria Ibanga’s 54 ballots.

Other winners are: Mr. Bolaji Adebiyi as Vice-President (West); Sam Egbala (VP East); Austeen Elewodalu (Assistant Secretary);; Eze Anaba (Social/Publicity Secretary); and Steve Nwosu (Treasurer).

Standing Committee West winners are Gabriel Akinadewo, Onuoha Ukwh and Woke Shogunle while Standing Committee (North) awinbers are Gbenga Adeshina and Umoru Ibrahim.

Elected unopposed are Ali M. Ali (Deputy President); Habib Nuhu (VP North); Iyobosa Uwugiaren(Secretary); Ngwoke Ngwoke (Standing Committee East) and Boma Woke (Standing Committee East).

The results were announced by the Chairman of the Screening and Election Committee, Mr. Bonnie Iwuoha.

In his acceptance speech, the president said his executive would begin work immediately.

He urged the Exco to consider their positions as a privilege to serve their colleagues.

Thereafter, the screening and electoral committee was dissolved.
