Nigerians blast Atiku Abubakar over social media comment

Nigerians on Friday attacked the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for saying on Arise TV that 90 per cent of Northerners are not on social media.

Atiku had in the interview said most of the supporters of the Labour Party ‘s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, were on social media and as such, it would be difficult for him to win the 2023 election.

He said, “Peter Obi is not a threat. I really don’t expect the Labour Party to take as many votes from the PDP as people are suggesting. We could have seen it in the last election in Osun State. What was the performance of the Labour Party?

“They again, they (Obi’s supporters) are talking about social media. Mind you, in the north, 90 per cent of our people (who will be voting) are not on social media,” Atiku said.

However, Nigerians descended on him on social media, saying he was part of the Northern elite that had kept the people of the region impoverished and backward.

They said Atiku was grossly misinformed and goofed seriously.

Atiku had also during the pre-recorded interview said the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had been obsessed about running on a Muslim-Muslim ticket since 2007.

He said he refused to run with Tinubu in 2007 when the latter suggested the ticket.

He said it was unfair for anyone to treat the interest of fellow Nigerians with disdain because of his personal ambition.

He said he picked Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, over his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, because the former was more desirable to help him win.
