Villagers snd policemen in Galadima, Niger State fled the farming community on Sunday evening over rumours of an impending bandits’ attack.
Witnesses told Metrostarng that the withdrawal of yhe mobile policemen in four Toyota Hilux vans triggered an exodus from the community located near Shiroro.
The villagers carried their belongings as they died on foot, motorcycles and cars.
Many camped at a school undergoing rehabilitation while others trekked to the staff quarters of the hydroelectric dam in Shiroro, which is heavily guarded by soldiers.
It was not known why the policemen were withdrawn but one of them Saud they received a signal from higher quarters to vacate the area.
The policemen were previously deployed in the area after it had suffered bandits’ attacks.
