Leading actress in the Northern movie industry known as Kannywood, Hauwa Maina, died on Wednesday night in Aminu Kano Teachibg Hospital, Kano after a brief illness.
Her death was confirmed by her colleagues who posted condolence messages on social media.
She had once been hospitalised at the National Hospital, Abuja.
Hauwa, who was in her 40s, combined acting with production and directing as well as a freelance job at Liberty FM, Kaduna.
A native of Biu in Borno State, she started in over 50 movies.
She began her movie career with n 1998 in a film directed by Saminu Mohammed Mahmud.
She appeared in a number films such as Sarauniya Amina, Gwaska and Maina, produced by her company, Ma’inta Enterprises Limited.
Hauwa was one of the most popular faces in Kannywood. She was famous for her roles in such epic Hausa movies as ‘Queen Amina’ and ‘Bayajida’.
She will be buried in Kaduna on Thursday.
