A magistrate’s court in Lokoja, Kogi State on Thursday remanded Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West, APC) in prison till June 11, 2018.
The senator, who was conveyed in an ambulance from Abuja into the courtroom, was arraigned on a stretcher for alleged gunrunning, aiding a jailbreak in Lokoja Prison and attempted suicide.
He was rearrested in Abuja after a court granted him N90 million bail.
The arraignment of the vocal senator is being seen as a witch-hunt by powerful persons in the presidency acting in collaboration with the Kogi State Government.
Having failed in recalling him from the Senate last weekend, Dino’s persecutors are believed to be looking for a way out of the news by taking him to Lokoja for arraignment.
On Wednesday, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, again shunned an invitation by the Senate to explain Dino’s predicament.
