2019: Adeola, Isiaka forge alliance

Mass defection is looming in the All Progressives Congress over the subterranean moves by President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to impose a former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, as its next national chairman.

The move is already causing widespread discontent even as members of the party in government align with opposing political forces.

On Wednesday, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola aka Yayi (APC, Lagos West) and a People’s Democratic Party governorship aspirant, Gboyega Nasir Isiala Aja GNI, decided to form a partnership to ensure that Ogun West produces the next governor in 2019.

Adeola, who has been torn between running for governor and returning to the Senate, may have made the move to save his political career.

There are speculations that outgoing governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, is angling to pick the APC’s Senatorial ticket for Lagos West.

A former senator, Musiliu Obanikoro, has also allegedly shown interest in the ticket.

Aregbesola is regarded as the heir apparent to the Tinubu political dynasty and the defacto leader of Lagos West Senatorial District,s once befire he became governor.

There are indications that Adeola may be angling to displace Senator Lanre Tejuosho of APC from Ogun West.

The alliance is being interpreted as a move by Adeola to back Isiaka, a two-time governorship aspirant, who briefly moved to the Peoples Party of Nigerua in 2015 before returning to PDP, to run for governor and unreturned support his senatorial return bid.

Both men hail from Yewa in Ogun West and are in the forefront of the push for the area to produce the next governor.

If Adeola Maikanti lick APC’s ticket, he may move to PDP or the Social Democratic Party.

He and Governor Ibikunle Amosun have been at loggerheads.

The governor is rumoured to have reached a secret deal with Isiaka ahead of the 2019 polls.
