Fulani herdsmen have butchered scores of people in three villages in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
In what appeared to be a reprisal attack, the herdsmen invaded the villages with sophisticated weapons, shooting and killing inhabitants.
The people of the area told journalists that a Nigerian Air Force jet hovered around the affected villages last weekend but flew away without doing anything.
In Monday, the herdsmen continued their killing spree even as soldiers and policemen were unable to challenge them.
The situation is tense as surviving inhabitants of the villages have fled to other areas.
There are no indications that the Federal Government will do anything seriously to end the violence.
There are claims that the attackers are mercenaries from neighbouring countries hired by the herdsmen to carry out reprisal killings in the area.
