Lekki protest: Buhari sends soldiers, policemen to stop protesters

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday ordered the deployment of heavily armed soldiers and policemen in the Lekki tollgate to stop a protest planned for Saturday February 13, 2021.

Witnesses said they noticed the heavily armed soldiers in three trucks as well as policemen.

The state government and the state police command had threatened to arrest and prosecute anyone who protests at the tollgate

The fresh protest was announced after the state’s judicial panel on human rights violations by the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police ordered the reopening of the tollgate.

The order was protested by Nigerians, who felt it was a violation of the purpose of the panel.
