Lagos on high alert as pipeline ruptures

Lagos State Government on Friday night placed residents on high alert over reports of a leaking petroleum pipeline in Abule Soba area of the state.

Abule Soba is located near Abule Ado where a has pipeline explosion claimed over many lives, buildings as vehicles on Sunday March 15, 2020.

British Broadcasting Corporation had aired a documentary alleging that the explosion followed leakage from the gas pipeline, contrary to the position of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

NNPC and the state government had claimed that the explosion followed a truck accident at an LPG depot in Abule Ado.

However, spokesman for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, in tweets said: “FLASH:The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has been informed of a major petroleum pipeline leakage at ABULE-SOBA.

The agency and other first responders remain on high alert. The NNPC has been informed of the incident.

Members of the public are cautioned to proceed with extreme caution in and around the area to prevent any form of explosion or igniting from a naked flame.”
