The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that Lagos State residents will face power outages for an undisclosed number of days due to a transmission line cut.

According to Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s Group Manager, Public Affairs, “The lines cut has resulted in a reduction of approximately 350MW of bulk electricity supply to the Lagos area affecting both Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies.”

“The temporary drop in bulk power supply has caused significant load shedding within the Eko and Ikeja franchise areas,” Mbah added.

The incident occurred on Saturday, March 9, between Towers 420 to 422 on the Omotoso – Ikeja West 330kV transmission line. TCN has mobilised its engineers to the site and conveyed necessary materials to repair the snapped sections.

“Repair work is expected to be completed within three days, after which the full bulk power supply will be restored through the transmission line route,” Mbah stated.

Mbah aapologised or any inconvenience caused, stating, “TCN apologises for any inconvenience caused to the government, Eko, and Ikeja Electricity Distribution companies, and electricity consumers in Lagos State.”

This development highlights the ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s power sector, with frequent grid collapses and transmission line cuts affecting households, businesses, and critical sectors like healthcare.

As energy analysts suggest, decentralizing the grid and establishing state-level regulatory commissions may be a feasible solution to attract investments and improve grid stability.
