Iyalode of Ibadan is dead

Shock on Saturday greeted the death of the Iyalode of Ibadanland, Alhaja Aminat Abiodun.

She reportedly died on Saturday morning at her Bodija, Ibadan residence.l, according to a Facebook post by an erstwhile president of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mr. Lanre Ogundipe.

Her family house at Idi Arere in the Oyo State capital was immediately thrown into mourning.

Known as the Obabinrin, the wealthy businesswoman was a member of the 11-member Olubadan-in-Council and wielded much authority and influence.

Abiodun, who succeeded the former occupant, Chief Wuraola Akintola in October 2017, will be buried on Sunday according to Islamic rites.

She was a friend of the masses like some of her predecessors such as Aniwura Efunsetan and Humuani Alaga.
