As COVID-19 spreads, don’t forget about the world’s deadliest animal
It’s Mosquito Week again on Gates Notes.
And this year, as COVID-19 spreads across the globe, it’s important to remember that the world’s deadliest animal hasn’t taken a break during this pandemic. Mosquitoes are out biting every night, infecting millions of people with malaria—a disease that kills a child every other minute of every day.
This Mosquito Week you can learn about why disruptions caused by the pandemic may put all the amazing progress the world has made against malaria at risk. I’m also highlighting the story of the West African country of Benin, where they’ve launched an innovative bed net distribution program despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus. Finally, you can get a tour of “Mosquito City,” the world’s largest colony of captive mosquitoes used by researchers to understand this deadly pest.
Thanks so much for your interest in learning more about these important efforts to save lives. And thanks for being an Insider!
