TRADITIONAL ruler of Ihiala, Thomas Obidiegwu, has constituted a peace committee to work towards the promotion of peace and harmony in Ihiala kingdom.
Igwe Obidiegwu who disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in Ihiala, said that the members of the committee known as ‘ndi Ezeudo’, would work to settle matters arising out of the kingship tussles. “We want to achieve peaceful coexistence within the kingdom.”
According to the monarch, membership of the committee was drawn from among the council of Ichies, made up of the old Ichies in late Oluoha, Igwe Okechukwu cabinet.
The Oluoha said the new ichies would be formerly installed during the upcoming new yam festival, to hold in the second week of September.
The new yam festival has been chosen because it is a big event in Ihiala, and Igboland in general which draw dignitaries from various areas.
He also said that he would constitute his cabinet on July 13.
He continued that his reign is aimed at promoting peace and harmony, and that his doors are open to ndi Ihiala, to take the community to higher levels.
Meanwhile, villages and groups in Ihiala have continued to pay their homage to the new Oluoha, pledging their solidarity to the new royalty.
While congratulating him, they urged him not to leave any stone unturned, in moving the community forward. “You have been elevated to serve and not to be served”.
In response, Oluoha expressed joy with his subjects, pledging to provide them the best leadership ever.
“I will bring everybody under one umbrella, and take Ihiala to higher heights,” he vowed.
