A former governor of Imo state, Emeka Ihedioha, has withdrawn from the Imo state gubernatorial race coming up later in the year.

Making this known in a letter dated 27th March 2023, Ihedioha said he was withdrawing from the race based on the arrangement by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to choose a consensus candidate in the coming governorship election in the state.

Imo state is one of the states where off-cycle election will be conducted this year.

According to the former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, he aligned himself with the decision of the party, saying he was putting aside his personal interest for harmony and unity to reign in the party.
