The Intelligence Response Team of the Office of the Inspector-General of Police has narrated how three brothers from Isiekenesi in Imo State drugged and butchered a 55-year-old widow, Mrs. Janet Nnenna Ogbonnaya, in Abuja and demanded a ransom of N5 million from her family.
The victim’s son, Chinedu Ogbonnaya, had filed a complaint with the police that his mother was lured from her home in Gwagwalada, Abuja by one of the suspects – Johnson Emmanuel (38),and drugged and killed.
He told the police that the suspect informed the family that she had been kidnapped whereas she had been killed since May 14, 2020 after her yoghurt drink was laced with drugs.
The police discovered that her body was dumped in a septic tank in the home of the prime suspect while in connivance with his brothers, Gideon Emmanuel (31) and Success Emmanuel (27), he changed the colour of the victim’s Toyota Highlander SUV and forged documents transferring ownership to himself.
He had also hurriedly sold off his house in Wumba, Lokogoma area of Abuja, where the victim’s body was exhumed on Thursday.
After committing the crime, the brothers died to their hometown but were apprehended by the police and taken to Abuja.
Spokesman for the Nigeria Police, DCP Frank Mba, quoted the IGP, Mohammed Adamu, as having commended the IRT operatives for a job well done and promised the diligent prosecution of the matter
