Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, on Monday denied rumours that he had concluded plans to rename Imo State University after the late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mallam Abba Kyari.
Tension had gripped the state after a press statement purportedly issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachukwu, hit the airwaves.
In the statement, Nwachukwu allegedly announced that the governor had decided to change IMSU to Mallam Abba Kyari University.
The state government swiftly debunked the claim, saying that nothing of the sort emanated from the CPS.
Uzodinma had in his tribute to Kyari, who died of Coronavirus in Friday, alehedly said the late CoS made him governor and as such, he would immortalise him.
However, Nwachukwu in a statement on Monday said the governor never made such comments.
He blames the opposition for the alleged “fake news” and threatened that the state government would take legal action.
