Deputy gov's aides decry unpaid salaries

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday moved immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, from Lagos to Abuja,.

This was 24 hours after he was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on his way to Houston, United States.

Obiano had left the venue of the inauguration of his successor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in the state capital, Awka, for the Anambra International Cargo Airport in Umueri on his way to Lagos.

He and his wife Ebelechukwu, left the venue after she received a slap from a former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain Iyom Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, during an exchange of words.

Obiano had been placed on the watchlist of EFCC since late last year for alleged fraud running into billions of Naira.

There were reports that he was released after two hours on Thursday.

However, the spokesman for EFCC, Wilson Uwijiaren, told Metrostarng that he was still in its custody.

In a terse WhatsApp message, he said: “Still in custody. Was moved to Abuja this morning.”
