Flash: Bandits kidnap 300 schoolgirls in Zamfara

Bandits overnight Thursday kidnapped 300 female pupils of Government Science Secondary School, Jangebe in Zamfara State, BBC Hausa reports.

The latest kidnap comes two weeks after some male pupils of GSS, Kankara in Niger State were kidnapped by bandits.

The terrorists are still holding onto the captives and have threatened to starve them to death if the Federal Government doesn’t heed to their demands.

The BBC reports from Zamfara in northwestern Nigeria that gunmen abducted about 300 female students from GSS Jangebe Secondary School in the state on Thursday night.

The father of one of the students and a teacher at the school when the students were abducted confirmed the incident to the BBC.

An eyewitness said more than 300 women had been abducted as a result of the counting of all the remaining students after the students were abducted.

The state police and the Zamfara state government have not yet commented on the matter.

This comes as efforts are underway to rescue Kagara Secondary School students and their teachers abducted by gunmen in Niger State.

Zamfara State is one of the worst hit states by pirates and kidnappers seeking ransom.
