Finally, APC picks Lawan as ‘consensus presidential candidate ‘

All Progressives Congress on Monday picked Senate President Dr Ahmad Lawan as the consensus presidential candidate of the party.

The decision was announced by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, in Abuja after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Adamu said that other presidential aspirants would be allowed to contest in the primaries scheduled for Monday night in Abuja.

This position runs counter to the decision of 11 Northern APC governors to back a candidate from Southern Nigeria.

This decision may have been influenced by the Peoples Democratic Party’s nomination of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate.

The ruling party may have decided to foist Lawan from the North-East as Atiku on the party as it’s best choice.
