FG urges el-Rufai, Labour to dialogue

The Federal Government on Tuesday urged Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, and organised labour to enter into a dialogue over the recent sackings of state civil servants.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, in a statement urged both sides not to allow the issue to escalate to a nationwide shutdown as threatened by the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers.

Labour had on Monday declared a five-day strike and total shutdown of the state.

Nigeria Labour Congress President, Ayuba Wabba, had led a protest march round parts of the state capital, Kaduna, on Monday.

On Tuesday, el-Rufai posted a tweet, in which he said he had declared Wabba wanted for economic sabotage.

In retaliation, Wabba led a protest to Kaduna State Government House and dared the governor to arrest him.

Labour also declared the governor wanted and placed a bounty on his head.

On Wednesday, security agents arrested thugs who tried to invade the NLC State Secretariat.

The governor also unilaterally sacked nurses and university lecturers in the state’s employ for joining the strike.
