
The Federal Government on Thursday directed telecommunications operators to block 9.2 million unregistered lines, due to serious security threats.
The directive was issued by Mrs. Yes Suleiman, the spokesperson for Communications Minister, Dr. Isa Pantami.
The directive pointed out that all lines that don’t meet proper registration standards should be blocked.
The directive was based on the baseline short-term performance targets report submitted to the minister by the Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communication Commission, Prof. Umar Dambatta, when the minister assumed office
The report contained precise figures of improperly registered SIM cards in use across the country.
NCC in the report stated that an estimated 9.2million SIM cards did not comply with proper procedures of SIM registration.
