Empty fuel tank caused Lagos helicopter crash – AIB

The Accident and Investigation Bureau on Monday said the Bell 206 helicopter that crashed into a residential building on Salvation Street in Opebi, Lagos crashed after its tank suddenly became empty.

It said in a preliminary report that the tank was empty after the crash.

It said although the helicopter had a fuel extender system, it did not have enough to carry it for the remaining two minutes left to land at the nearby Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

The pilot, his assistant and an engineer with the operators of the logistics helicopter died within minutes of the crash.
