Nigerians are mobilising to boycott the 2021 edition of The Platform annual discourse over the listing of Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, as one of the speakers.
It usually comes up on May 1.
Last year’s edition was suspended due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
Opposition to the governor’s participation rose gold on Thursday after he was listed alongside his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, among other speakers.
The Kaduna State Governor has come under attack over his indifference to the plight of kidnapped students of the Federal College of Forestry and Greenfield University, both in his state.
Five students of the university have so far been killed by bandits who kidnapped them last week.
In 2018, el-Rufai ran into a similar storm when he had to be dropped at the last minute as a speaker at the annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Another sore point is the absence of a female speaker on the panel.
Regular attendees at the forum have been reaching out to Nigerians to shun the programme.
