Delta police quiz officers over alleged role in detainees’ escape


Nigeria PoliceThree police officers attached to Ashaka Police Station in Ndokwa East local council of Delta State are now being probed over their alleged role in the escape of two detainees at the station.
The two senior officers and head of the station (names withheld) are mandated to produce the detainees.One of the suspects alleged to be a notorious robber who had been terrorising Ashaka community in the past two years, was arrested recently by detectives attached to the police station.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed that the investigating police officer (IPO) and other officers were under pressure to produce the suspects, said they escaped from custody at Ashaka police station about three weeks ago and were yet to be found.

The suspect identified as Ellokel Daga had been on the wanted list of the police for his involvement in several robberies in the area.He was arrested by detectives attached to Ashaka police station with the assistance of vigilance groups in the area. But he was alleged to have escaped when he sought permission to use the toilet outside the police cell.
Aniamaka said the police had given an ultimatum to the officers concerned to search for the suspects who were arrested with several rounds of ammunition.
The officer in charge of the station who preferred anonymity said efforts were being intensified to re-arrest the suspects.Meanwhile, Daga’s father, who is also being interrogated, has denied knowledge of the whereabouts of his son. He asked the police to look for him because he escaped from their custody.
