The biggest pay-per-view event of WWE,
SummerSlam, is to take place behind closed doors at WWE’s Performance Centre due to the coronavirus pandemic.

WWE have reportedly moved SummerSlam to their Performance Centre in Orlando, Florida, Talksport reports.

The pay-per-view was due to take place at the TD Garden arena in Boston, Massachusetts.

Seth Rollins was standing tall at the end of last year’s SummerSlam after beating Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.

However, PWInsider say the coronavirus pandemic has forced WWE to hold the mega event behind closed doors on August 23.

In May, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh confirmed the city would not permit large public events this summer.

WWE have been holding Raw, SmackDown and pay-per-views, including WrestleMania 36 and Money In The Bank, at their Performance Centre since March.

SummerSlam is one of WWE’s ‘Big Four’ along with WrestleMania, Royal Rumble and Survivor Series.

Brock Lesnar has main-evented the last SIX SummerSlams and could wrestle at this year’s show for the first time since losing the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 36.

Meanwhile, there are rumours WWE fans could get a long-awaited main roster match between SmackDown Women’s champion Bayley and Sasha Banks.

Other WWE superstars such as McIntyre, ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton are expected to be on the card.
