The senator representing Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu, has died in Lagos of complications arising from COVID-19

He is the fifth senator to die this year.

Kashamu, who was also the proprietor of Western Lotto, died at First Cardiology Hospital in Ikoyi Lagos.

For years, he resisted attempts by the United States to have him extradited on drug trafficking charges.

His bosom friend and former colleague, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, who broke the news of his death, said: "” I have just lost my good friend of forever to COVID-19. Until his death, Sen Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos.

“May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss.”
