Confusion reigned in the Presidential Villa on Tuesday as news broke that President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff and defacto deputy, Abba Kyari, tested positive for the dreaded novel Coronavirus.
President Buhari, however, tested negative, according to sources in the villa.
Kyari, who has virtually usurped the powers of Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo had traveled on March 7 to Germany for a meeting with officials of electricity services giant, Siemens, on expanding Nigeria’s power sector and later flew to Egypt before returning to Abuja.
Buhari was tested on Monday by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and the result was passed to him on Tuesday.
The test became necessary after Kyari tested positive on Monday.
He was said to have coughed uncontrollably throughout Sunday, especially during a meeting of the Federal Government’s committee on containing the virus.
He has gone into isolation.
Buhari’s daughter has also been in isolation after returning from London.
Same for some officials in the office of the first lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, who accompanied her daughter from London to Abuja.
