Charismatic Nigerian preacher and founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua has died, according to a report by People’s Gazette.
Quoting family sources, the report said he died shortly after concluding a church programme.
The church confirmed the development even as its premises were sealed on Sunday.
Members wept profusely over the loss of the charismatic preacher, who had millions of social media followers across the world.
He also reached out globally through his Emmanuel TV and philanthropic gestures.
He was said to have been ill for two days before his death.
Born June 12, 1963, Joshua ran into stormy waters over a number of his sermons.
The church’s YouTube account was recently suspended for airing a video in which he claimed to have a cure for gays.
On September 12, 2014, a guesthouse on the church’s premises collapsed, killing 115 people.
The matter has been in court since then.
The church had claimed that a flying object was witnessed hovering around the area shortly before the building collapsed.
Popularly known as ‘Senior Prophet,’ the ckeruc had urged Nigerians to pray ahead of his 58th birthday.
He said in a message posted on his social media platforms that he would not mark the birthday.
It reads: “Happy birthday to you. Viewers around the world, June 12th is around the corner. As you know, I’m a man of the people. The wound of one is the wound of all.
“As things stand, you may have realised that it will not be easy to celebrate my birthday under the present circumstances. Some of the people who want to come are troubled by the situation all over the world.
“We see their fear and their worry. I feel their pain; I feel their worry.
“Therefore, let us dedicate this day to prayer and fasting. Don’t forget the needy. By the grace of God, more birthdays are ahead. God bless you. Emmanuel.”
