UPDATE: How Officer Sustained Injury, 4 Soldiers Died Foiling Attack on Military Base

About four soldiers were killed yesterday while foiling a terrorist attack launched by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Ngamdu, a border town between Yobe and Borno States.

PRNigeria also gathered from reliable military sources that an officer, while attempting to provide cover for his battalion of troops against the ISWAP elements, was shot.

The officer, it was reported, sustained serious injury. But he was taken to a military medical facility and is fast recuperating.

“While the troops were engaging the ISWAP terrorists in their MRAPs and gun trucks, some of the ISWAP insurgents sneaked and attempted to penetrate the Ngamdu Super Camp from behind. It was at this point that the officer and his battalion of troops confronted them.

“Unfortunately, four soldiers were shot by the terrorists and later died. The officer who attempted to protect the troops also sustained injuries in the attack. But is now receiving treatment. The troops, however, succeeded in foiling the ISWAP attack,” said one of the sources.

Recalled that PRNigeria yesterday reported that two fighter helicopters of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Tuesday foiled a terrorist attack on Ngamdu.

The NAF aircraft also successfully provided air cover to another detachment of troops moving from Ngamdu to Benishek with heavy arms and ammunition.

The terrorists had attempted to attack a military base in the area before they were stopped by troops who had been put on high alert.

The attack, planned by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, was repelled by the military helicopters, supported by troops of Super Camp in Ngamdu.

A security source told PRNigeria that the ISWAP elements stormed the town in MRAPs and gun trucks.

PRNigeria could not display some of the battered and gory images of terrorists after the encounter with the Nigerian Troops.

Police Nab 3 CJTF members for allegedly Killing Borno Teacher

The Borno State Police Command has arrested three Civilian Joint Task Force(CJTF) members for allegedly killing one Babagana Ahmed Gaidam, a teacher.

The victim, 42, was the Head Teacher of Asheikh Jarma Mega School, at Bulumkuttu Abuja, in Maiduguri.

PRNigeria gathered that he was stabbed to death at his residents at about 3 am on Monday.

Before his untimely death, Babagana was said to have disengaged three of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members deployed as security men in the school, after he discovered that there were issues pertaining to theft of the school properties.

The items stolen include fans, ACs and other important learning kits, which were thereafter sold.

After disengaging them, the CJTF members reportedly visited the resident of the victim to warn him to “stay away from them or else they would kill him.”

They met his wife when they came last week and she relayed the message to her husband, sources said.

But at midnight, the assailants rode a tricycle to the victim’s house, scaled over his fence and broke into his room while he was asleep.

They began attacking him with a knife. Though the victim attempted to fight back but they overpowered and killed him.

The wife of the deceased had disclosed that her late husband recognised his killers as he was heard screaming their names, while they were stabbing him until he passed away.

A Senior Police Officer told PRNigeria that three suspected persons were arrested at Bulumkuttu Abuja of Borno on Tuesday, following a directive by the Commissioner of Police(CP), Abdu Umar.

“The name given by the wife of the deceased, which the victim was mentioning before his death made it very easy to identify the suspected culprits.

“The three suspects would be transferred to the State’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Command for investigation,” he said.

The Senior Police Officer said the suspects would be charged for culpable homicide if found guilty of the crime.

Recalled that the killing of the innocent teacher had generated outrage from residents in Maiduguri, who demanded that his killers be brought to book.
