BIG BROTHER NAIJA AND ITS CAN OF USE-LESS
It began as Big Brother Africa. Today it is Big Brother Naija. It is what it is, a reality show rated 18. It means only adults are approved to watch it.
Ever since it debuted,a lot of criticisms and approval have trailed its activities.
Nigerians of course are divided along sentiments, each with what they feel make the show either morally bankrupt or entertaining ecstatic.
Such is life with varied of views, opinions, reactions and persuasion.
Nothing under the sun, is perfect , so well structured, designed and packaged that it has a clean bill of no criticisms.
Jesus wasn’t, as good and Godly he is, his personality divided humanity along sentiments and emotional lines.
For some, he was the Messiah while others saw him as Beelzebub.
As humans we will at all times express our nature, so polarized even in matters of God who is all knowing, all perfect, who undoubtedly is the giver of life.
Many even in such a reasonable, uncontestable attributes of God have in barefaced manner dared and questioned his existence.
For obvious reasons I have serially criticized Big Brother Naija reality show in a way and manner that depicted as an amorous energizer too aphrodisiac for decent mind.
Still fresh in my mind is my piece on Facebook last year giving the show deadly knocks.
It was one piece that generated a lot of diverse views and opinions. Between then and now what has really changed? Nothing really!
Big Brother Naija is still what it is. A reality show.
I guess I threw the baby away with the bad water, unmindful of the fact that life is full of clouds and silver linings.
I guess I was too critical, focusing more on the less, forgetting the use that preceded it( useless)
I guess I got so much sucked in by the obvious immorality in the show fogeting that if one could remove or overlook the the letters of “I and M” one could have morality.
Life is full of contrasting twist. It comes with two energies, positive and negative.
Each of those, just like in light energy has roles to play in the generation of light.
We live and survive as humans because of this contrasting realities of our existence. One takes what one needs and gives out the toxic that one doesn’t need, which may be the very source of someone else’s or something life wire. ( Oxygen and Carbon dioxide mystery)
What we breathe out as waste is the life wire of plants, while what they breathe out becomes our source of living. Such is the irony of life ,full of meaning with a whole lot of lessons to learn.
Big Brother Naija Lockdown season 5 is trending since two weeks, delibrately following and consciously watching it without scruple. From the very first day the 20 contestants entered the Big Brother house, I have followed critically every bit of their actions. I have seen Ozo, Prince, Praise, Laycon, Trickytee, Brighto, Neo, Eric, Kiddwaya, Tochi. I have equally monitored Lucy, Nengi, Ka3nna, Kaisha, Erica, Vee, Lilo, Tolanbanji, Dorathy and Wathoni. These are people from different backgrounds and orientation. Strong , youthful , different sexes and potent, locked in an apartment to play Big Brother Naija game. What kind of game?
Life in itself is a game. We all live in an enclosure called the earth with a boundless opportunities and obstacles.
In Big Brother Naija, there is a game. A game of opportunity, striving to get to the ultimate goal. Interestingly just like a rose flowers there are thorns hedged around it. It doesn’t comes easy, it is achievable and possible though.
For the few weeks I have watched the show, I saw a reflection of not only what life generally is , I saw also the very depiction of our Christian journey.
It is a journey that is full of obstacles, challenges, distractions, temptation, seduction etc only the strong get through to be crowned afterall
Not all that began the race made it to the end. Causalities are bound to happen, people may cry, sulk and get disillusioned.
Some in the course of the game may lose their identity, swallowed by the crowd and the desire to belong, thereby loosing focus on the very reason of their creation.
In the character of the 20 contestants of this year’s Big Brother Naija, I see a reflection of how we look, approach and engage life. Each of them x- rays the various aspects or moments of our human nature.
Isn’t it unreasonable that one would pass through the rigors of passing the screening to be among the selected few to contest for a huge sum of 85 million Naira only to get distracted by vainess and frivolities? ( Called into the fold of God, only to lose out because of distraction and seduction)
Some are there very focused with their eyes on the ultimate prize, others are there to distract and make some unstable ones lose focus, while some have also drifted pursing shadows, thinking that all that glitters all gold.
Big Brother Naija is a game of opportunities and an emotional intelligence assessment game.
It is game that creates windows for both self control and incontinence, leaving one with the choices to make. It is a game that stretches one to the limit of ones emotions , leaving one with the option of either to snap out or to walk away, ruffling no feathers.
It is a game that conditions one to look at the deeper aspect of life, making no conclusion based on surface emotional expression.
Just like life, Big Brother Naija game comes in full and complete package of use-less, hope-less, help-less, care-less etc
In all these one is faced with three options 1) To take life as it comes 2) To take the word and jettison the suffix 3) To jettison the main word and runs with the suffix. Which option do you find yourself? Useless? Use? Or less
As Christians we have an ultimate prize waiting for us. To get there and be crowned isn’t a walk on the park. Many have lost focus, roaming around like butterfly pursuing things that are off the radar of the ultimate prize.
We are ourselves bundle of complexities. Our mind is mix-grill of things, selecting what helps in realizing ones destiny and purpose is a game everyone is bound to play. How one plays it determines what one gets at the end.
Sulking over what was and was not said to one, getting distracted by the activities of others, getting lost in the world and space of others etc make one a weak contender in the race for the ultimate reward of life.
That is life and by extension what this Big Brother Naija game is all about by my own estimation.
Play your game your own way, always have your eyes on the ultimate reward. You may have the Nengis, the Ozos, the Ericas, the Lilos etc just be the Brighto, the Trickytees, the Kaishas etc unmoved, self-confident, self controlled etc. Knowing what one is cut out for and pursuing it with utmost concentration without giving in to influence.
You may equally be carried away by emotional fickness of the Erics, Wathonis, the Ka3nnas, the Vees , etc the choice is yours, though not devoid of its consequences.
Be wise and discerning like the Doras, the Prince, the Tochis, the Tolanbanji etc not to be enroped into the loops of the Kiddwayas, the Praise , the Neos etc it can be regretable and frustrating when the real intention is uncovered.
Just don’t be a Lucy who sees life and what it brings, jumps at them, only to discover how poles apart they are at each other. However, in all situation at every moment, never write anybody off, you wouldn’t know how Layconic they may be, afterall the best books may not have the best cover.
Life is not simple, it is also simple. It has a lot up its sleeves, no one person can count it and perfectly chronicle it. No matter how perfect one thinks one is , there is always something about one , others may find unspiring.
Choose your fight, choose your fancies, maintain your focus and never judge a book by its cover, there could be more to it.
Grace will help us.
