Bandits kidnap four Shiroro GENCO/TCN staffers, child


Bandits on Saturday afternoon kidnapped two staff members of Shiroro Power Station as well as an employee of the Transmission Company of Nigeria and a child at Railway crossing hear Gwada village in Shiroro, Niger State.

Witnesses said the bandits operated fir between three and hours from 3.30pm and 7pm.

The bandits laid ambush in the area and were kidnapping people as they passed by.

They grabbed one of the staff members on his motorcycle while the two others and a child were seized as well.

The bandits took them away and have reportedly demanded for ransoms.

Confirming the incident, the Zonal Organising Secretary (Generation and Transmission North), Comrade Eyurentosanren E. Godwin, told Metrostarng that "there is the urgent need for the Federal Government to secure the host community as well as the transmission and power station and prevent the bandits from taking them over."

He added: "Following the press statement of the General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, Comrade Joe Ajaero, on the need for the government to urgently take charge of the security situation to avoid any untoward development, I’m reiterating that with the consistent attacks within the location, we may be forced to withdraw our services.
